Abstract
Flooding is a significant natural disaster in Malaysia, particularly during the monsoon season. Most existing flood monitoring systems are designed for specific areas, limiting their effectiveness in providing comprehensive warnings. Therefore, this study aims to develop an advanced flood warning system to alert residents about rising water levels. The proposed system utilizes an ultrasonic sensor and a tipping rain gauge to measure floodwater levels and average daily rainfall, respectively. The ultrasonic sensor categorizes water levels into three stages: normal, warning, and danger. The tipping rain gauge calculates the average daily rainfall, enhancing flood prediction accuracy. These sensors transmit real-time data to a microcontroller, which is integrated with ThingSpeak to relay information to users’ mobile devices. Through the ThingSpeak application, users receive automated notifications regarding current floodwater levels. Additionally, an ESP32-CAM module is incorporated to provide real-time video footage of the affected areas, enabling more effective monitoring. In conclusion, this system offers a reliable and efficient solution for residents in flood-prone areas, allowing them to take timely precautionary measures and mitigate potential risks.
