Abstract

Machining of aerospace part utilizing Five-Axis Flank Milling strategy with few sets of machining parameters, namely the cutting speed (Vc) and feed per tooth (Vf) were conducted in this study. The main objectives of the research is to identify the most optimum machining parameters for an actual sample of aerospace part with respect to the surface roughness and dimensional accuracy. Aluminium 6061 is chosen as the main material and the CNC Milling Center DMGMORI DMU 60 eVo were utilized for the actual physical machining operation. The CAD/CAM program were developed using CATIA V5 software. One of the machining operation offered by this platform known as Multi-Axis Flank Contouring were employed to in preparing the program for the selected CAD model. Subsequently, surface roughness evaluation of the machined part were performed using a Mitutoyo Surftest SJ-410. Meanwhile, Wenkel Z055 Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) were deployed for the dimensional accuracy analysis. At the end of the research’s milestones, the most optimum machining parameters which subject to the best result of the dimensional accuracy, and surface roughness is obtained.
