Abstract

The main objective of this study is to solve the problem of Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) in semiconductor manufacturing company by implementing Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) to increase OEE. This study was carried out in a multinational semiconductor industry located in Melaka, Malaysia where the case company faces the problems of equipment downtime, lack of visual indicator to monitor the performance of the machines, low quality, low throughput, lack of training of workers in the bottleneck process of the testing machine in the test area resulting in low OEE. Therefore, this study is aimed to reduce the machine downtime of the case company with the implementation of OEE availability dashboard in order to increase the availability and in the same time increase the OEE of the testing machine. In this study, data is collected for 26weeks duration and the root causes of the low availability in the bottleneck process is identified by using the developed framework and Ishikawa diagram and therefore analyze the collected data. Also, dashboard will be developed to identify the main root cause for low availability that results in the low OEE. Furthermore, benefits bring to the case company and incremental of OEE after the implementation of the framework and developed dashboard are discussed in this study. Therefore, the implementation of framework and developed dashboard lead to the incremental of availability by 3.92% and at the same time incremental of OEE by 3.78%. As a result, it had been found that the OEE of the machine is increased and the throughput of the case company is also improved. Now, the profit of the case company is increased. These results showed that the objectives discussed in Chapter 1 of this study are achieved.
