Abstract

Jigs and fixtures are devices frequently used in manufacturing processes and inspection to locate and secure the workpiece in the correct orientation. This project is a real case study in Cohu (M) Sdn.Bhd,a semiconductor industry which has a prism jig that is unable to control the position and misalignment of prism assembly during 5 side inspection. The aim of this project is to develop a Poka-Yoke prism jig that is able to control the prism position and misalignment at four directions. At the same time, the Poka-Yoke prism jig is capable to increase the productivity of the prism assembly process which yield to higher production volume. (Plan,Do,Check,Action) – PDCA cycle is applied in this project to develop a Poka-Yoke prism jig.The design concept is enhanced until the design of Poka-Yoke prism jig is developed which is fulfil the design specifications and approved by Cohu.Prototype of Poka-Yoke prism jig is fabricated using 3D printing for the result analysis.Prism assembly process time by using Poka-Yoke prism jig is measured and recorded based on the design of experiment for prism assembly line.Performance on productivity for prism assembly by using both design of prism jig are analysed based on the assembly process time.As a conclusion, the study is carried out successfully with achieved the objectives and recommendations for further study is provided at the end of the report.A Poka-Yoke prism jig that is able to control the prism position and misalignment at four directions is developed. Productivity for prism assembly process is increased 28.6% from 7 units to 9 units of prism assembly with 8 working hours by using Poka-Yoke prism jig.
