Abstract

Productivity is the measures of the efficiency of production in the workplace.Being productive can help the firm to produce profitable goods and/or services which lead to better customer’s satisfaction. To survive in the market, the manufacturing industry needs to improve its productivity by introducing new strategies. However, implementing change for any organization can be a difficult task, either it is costly or involves long lead time.In this case, simulation plays a vital role in the improvement process. It can be used to study and compare between different alternative in order to troubleshoot existing systems. In this project,Toyota Sewing System is being introduced to increase the labour productivity in the clothing industry. The original and proposed manufacturing system in the industry are built in ARENA simulation software for analysis purpose. In general, the outcomes shows that by employ the Toyota Sewing System the labour productivity increased from 12.05 units for one person of worker in a hours to 34.21 units for one person of worker in a hours.Meanwhile, this also reflects a higher production output, shorter cycle time, higher resource utilization and lesser work in progress material.Additionally, the breakeven point could be achieved at the 9081 units (5.07 working days) while the return on investment is RM 2.69 for every one ringgit invested.
