Abstract

The purpose of this study is to develop a newly formulated bio-lubricant using vegetable oil.The conventional mineral based oil contributes to the environment pollution, even the increment of the price, and reduction of crude oil.Vegetable oil has been discovered to be the alternative lubricant due to vegetable oil properties are biodegradable, renewable, environmentally friendly and non-toxic.The new formulated bio-lubricant will use 2 wt% concentration of Zinc Diamyl dithiocarbamate (ZDDC) induced palm oil with the addition of Molybdenum Dithiophosphate (MoDTP) at concentration of 0.05 wt%,0.10 wt%,0.15 wt% and 0.20 wt% respectively. The samples were tested according to American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) method.Rotating Disc Electrode Atomic Emission Spectroscopy (RDE-AES) will be used to investigate the metal content of the sample.ASTM D4172 which is Four Ball Tester and Upright Light Microscope will be used to characterize the coefficient of friction and wear scar diameter. The Coefficient of Friction was obtained at 0.075 and Wear Scar Diameter recorded at 122.95 μm.The result was showed at concentration of 2 wt% of ZDDC and 0.05 wt% of MoDTP is the desirable result. In conclusion, with the combination of ZDDC and MoDTP induced into palm oil was well produced as newly formulated bio-lubricant.
