Abstract

Productivity is the measurement of effectiveness of process. The productivity measurement is always implemented in production process by identify input and output of the process. In this research, productivity measurement is done to identify the needs for productivity improvement. However, the design process is different with the production process. Therefore, the variables are identified based on efficiency and effectiveness. The Objective Matrix Method (OMAX) to measure the productivity of the industrial design process. The lean tools approach is applied on the industrial design process. The wastes in industrial design process are identified by root cause analysis and the lean tools approach is suggested to eliminate the wastes found in the industrial design process. Based on the data collected, the productivity index achieved for the company is 65.18%. There are several wastes identified in the industrial design process based on the root causes which are the feedback, documentation, customer requirement, resources, working environment and company goals. The lean tools approach such as Kaizen, Standardized Work, 5S, Smart Goals and etc. are applied for the waste elimination. Finally, the productivity is predicted to improve to achieve 70.71% based on the calculation. Conclusively, the research is mainly contributes for helping product development companies to identify and eliminate root causes of wastes by using lean tools approach. Eliminating wastes in the design process will help to increase the productivity of the process.
