Abstract

Kaizen is a Japanese word which means continuous improvement used to reduce manufacturing process cost. Masaki Imai introduced Kaizen in year 1986 and implemented Kaizen in one of the Japanese carmaker to improve their company. It can be applied onto any part that needs to make an improvement whether in services or product. This research has been conducted at Likom Caseworks Sdn. Bhd. located at Malacca with purpose to make an improvement of product quality issue during running mass production and to ensure customer satisfaction by implementing Kaizen. After analysing reject data for a few months, one of the defects has been identified to make an improvement. The defect has been improved by using Kaizen tools which are PDCA Cycle and Poka Yoke Techniques. Poka Yoke Techniques is applied when making a jig that acts as mistakes proofing when been used by operator while making their process. Meanwhile, PDCA Cycle is a method used from the beginning of improvement process until the end of it. Pilot running has been conducted for 50 samples to see the performance of the jig in helping operator when making their process from making any defects. From the pilot running, there is no defect occur after implementing jig at the production line. It shows that, this Poka Yoke jig is successfully improved and can be implemented at the production line. By implementing this jig, the product quality can be improve, thus, it will improve customer satisfaction and company reputation.
