Abstract

This project entitled ‘The Evaluation of Production Line Performance by Using Arena Software”. This project mainly applies the simulation software ARENA to stimulate the post-process production line at company Ansell (M) Sdn. Bhd. There are six workstations involved in the production line such as pre-dryer, washer, ex-washer dryer, carousel chlorinator, siliconator and final dryer. There are some significant problems faced in the production line such as bottleneck at some workstations and low productivity and efficiency. In addition, the cycle time for each process of the production line are obtained from data given by the company management. Stopwatch Time Study has been used in order to identify the load time, unloading time and transportation time at the production process. The real production system has been simulated using Arena simulation software to investigate the efficiency and productivity so that the performance of the processes can be analyzed. Using this Arena simulation software, the input and output of product can be observed clearly. Verification and validation are done to the Arena model to determine whether the simulation model is an accurate and reasonable representation of the actual system under study and finally the result of Arena simulation can be analyzed. After the results are stimulated and analyze, the waiting time which is the bottleneck had been identified. Then, the suggestions are made to improve the efficiency and utilization of its production line by using the possible method such as cause and effect diagram. Then, the problems are solved by using the visual stream mapping (VSM) technique. The improvement will be implemented to the production line. Finally, the new simulation model is made to stimulate an effective and reliable model by taking Arena simulation software towards recognition of the improvement actions in production line. From the objectives, the expected results are find out the bottleneck in production line, to propose an improvement suggestions and to compare result before and after the implementation of improvement by develop an effective and reliable model by using Arena software. This study is very useful for the industry because the industry needs to improve the efficiency and utilization of its production lines.
