Abstract

This project introduces an application for managing the waste elimination database in lean manufacturing to improve the visual indicators and enhance the problem solving capabilities of the employees in the organisation as the basic success factors to drive the process of continuous improvement culture forward. The paper is based on a literature review and empirically collected data. The literature review is based on a comprehensive literature review of the key factors in lean culture and waste elimination database management, while the empirical part is a demonstrative case study of aero-composite manufacturing in the application design by using Microsoft Access software. The finding of this paper is to drive the employees to the strategic problem solving cycle in the problem solving activities by using the customized Microsoft Access software. Moreover, the visual indicators and communication in the organization are also improved as the database is systematically managed and presented in meaningful conclusion. Future study should be conducted on the implications proposed in the case study, as the many factors such as human factors and skills in using the database application are affected the effectiveness of the designed application. The cost saving value after implement the database application is difficult to obtain as some study subject are difficult to measure in term of cost.
