Abstract

This project is an improvement for conventional solar energy storage application system. There is a need to increase the energy storage capacity due to increasing load demand, therefore the conventional method of increasing the energy storage capacity is to replace the battery with high capacity battery. There is a minimum recommended current for charging in order to charge batteries efficiently. Therefore increasing the battery capacity requires the increasing charging current to charge the battery. The only way to increase the charging current for solar energy storage application is only to increase the size of the the number or size of photovoltaic panels. These increasing numbers or size in photovoltaic panels will contribute to the increasing cost as well. Other than replacing the battery banks to higher capacity battery, another conventional method used to increase the energy storage capacity is to place few of the batteries in parallel connection. There is also a drawback for connecting batteries in parallel which will further decrease the battery performance. The design of smart switching charging system for solar energy storage application will be able to increase the battery management system for solar energy storage application and eliminate the problem faced in conventional method as mentioned above.
