Abstract

Operating within a highly competitive environment, employers are seeking for competent workers to ensure maximum productivity of their organization. However, employing skilled workers does not guarantee productivity as organizations also need to adopt an efficient operating system that can minimize wastages. In this context, Lean Manufacturing (LM) practice is a method used to reduce wastes in the operations of an organization. This study applies LM tools and techniques in order to overcome productivity problem in a particular manufacturing company, known as Company XY. Thus, the aim of this study to improve the production productivity at packaging process that supported by three objectives: i) identifying critical factors that contributes to low production yield at packaging process, ii) providing work standardization at packaging process, iii) increasing the production yield by five percent. Result proves that Work Standardization through determination of standard CT and establishment of Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) can improve the production yield at packaging process by ten percent. However, further improvement using LM tools and technique such as 5S implementation is strongly recommended in this study.
