Abstract

The need for acoustic absorption coefficient material is indeed in demand as the current acoustic absorption material is expensive and the use of natural fiber is still under research. Natural fiber has good properties for a sound or acoustic absorption material or panel. For this study, the study will emphasize on the skin of the proposed acoustic panel. The core structure has been selected which is the natural fiber in a sandwich structure. The skin layer will be tested using impedance tube. Many researchers in their research also carried out the same test but the arrangement of the coir was not the same as this study. Coconut fiber is proven to be a good sound absorbing material. In this research the main focus is on the skin layer of the acoustic panel as there is no research and testing done for the skin material. The suggested skin material will also serve as a decorative and protective layer for the core or acoustic panel. The proposed material will be prepared as samples for sound absorption coefficient testing using the impedance tube testing method, which has been carried out by many researchers. The proposed material which is the cotton material with 2 layers of the same material with an 10mm air gap in between the 2 layers and 10mm gap to the core is recommended to be used as skin material for an acoustic core panel as the material had a very good sound absorption coefficient compared to the other material and arrangement in this research.
