Abstract
This project presents the design and analysis of production tooling for Metal Matrix Composite material by investment casting technique. The objectives of th is project are to investigate the design parameters of production tooling, analyze the structural and thermal analysis, and design the new technique to improve the production tooling product. The design parameters of production tooling by investment casting process were determined in this project such as chamfer, fillet, and hole in order to develop the design rules. Spherical bracket is chosen in this study, and was used the Metal Matrix Composite (MMC) Material. By using the computer aided engineering analysis (CAE), ANSYS software, the maximum stress and displacement were determined. The main material was used in this project is Aluminium Silicon Carbide. Aluminium alloy as a matrix material and Si02 quartz as a particulate reinforce added in different percentage. The main composition of Aluminium was 85.95%, and 11% to 13% of silicon. In addition, the thermal analysis of temperature and pressure for producing the spherical bracket by investment casting showed the flow of molten metal was uniform and significant could improve the design proposed. By applying the design simulation and analysis of Computer Aided Engineering software, the design rules for production tooling is developed. As a result, a new gating technique was designed to improve the production tooling product.
