Abstract

The report is concerned about the design and development of a low force punching tool using pneumatic actuator including designing of new punch geometry which capable to perform piercing process using low force power supply. A low force punching tool means that the required power source is supplied by a low pressure compressor (max. I 0 bar). The design of punching tool consists of pneumatic system design and mechanical structure design. Some new geometry of punch pierce were designed and analyzed to obtain the minimum force required to perform piercing process of a I 0 mm hole on a S30C steel plate with 0. 7 mm thickness. The research more focused on the development of new punch geometry which can reduce the required force. The punch force required for every new punch model was analyzed and compared with the common punch tool geometry available in the market. On the other hand, the quality aspects of the part such as burry, scratch, wrinkle related to the new punch geometry are neglected. As a result, a new punching tool has been designed and fabricated and some new punch geometry have been developed and investigated.
