Abstract

The goal of this project is to select the right design concept at the conceptual design stage for automotive bumper fascia. The objective was achieved by my analytical hierarchy process to select the best of conceptual design with identify the factors influence in selection process for design concept selection in the development of a bumper fascia. To determine the most optimum decisions on design concept for the automotive bumper fascia, analytical hierarchy process was used. Inaccurate decision making can cause the product to be redesigned or remanufactured. One of the useful tools that can be employed in determining the most appropriate design concept is Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). AHP has been employed in almost all applications related to decision making problems. To overcome the decision making problem, the research began by generating and developing several conceptual design of automotive bumper fascia and investigating various parameters or criteria and alternatives that normally used to manufacture automotive bumper fascia by implementing concept selection approach. This final year project has been conducted to identify the best design concept of automotive bumper fascia using AHP. To illustrate the AHP application, some design concepts of automotive bumper fascia are considered and the most appropriate one is determined. From the result of AHP analysis, the most suitable design concepts for this project is design concept 3 because has the highest value (23.86%) among the other design concepts.
