Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic profoundly disrupted Proton Holdings Berhad’s production, affecting supply chains, workforce availability, and operational efficiency. This study examines these challenges, and the strategies Proton employed to mitigate disruptions. Using a qualitative research approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with Proton employees, and thematic analysis was conducted to identify key themes. Findings indicate that Proton faced major supply chain disruptions, increased operational costs, and unpredictable production schedules due to lockdowns and global component shortages. Workforce limitations further complicated production, leading to delays and reduced output. To address these challenges, Proton implemented digital sales platforms, diversified its supply chain, and enhanced workplace safety measures to ensure business continuity. This study highlights the critical role of crisis management, digital transformation, and supply chain resilience in sustaining the automotive industry during global disruptions. The findings provide valuable insights for policymakers, industry stakeholders, and manufacturers in developing strategies to enhance production resilience and long-term sustainability in the face of future crises.
