Abstract
Finding ways to save energy has become an increasingly urgent concern of power industry. One strategy with enormous energy saving potential is to reduce the supply power of large auxiliary motor (induction motor) at Sejingk.at Power Corporation (SPC) by using Variable Speed Drive (VSD) which match motor speed to thar required for the application. A VSD rectifier incoming AC voltage and current in to DC, then invert the DC back into AC at a different voltage and frequency. The output voltage and frequency is determined by the actual power need of the motor. In addition to the economic benefit of lower energy costs variable speed drive can enhance product quality and reduce equipment maintenance. Flow rates and equipment speed can be automatically and instantaneously adjust to meet changes in production process requirement. This helps ensure product uniformity and reduce material waste. If equipment often runs at less than its maximum speed, it can be reduced considerably and maintenance intervals can be extended. By applying VSD system, the energy can be saved up to 60%.
