Abstract
Laminate composite of CFRP were fabricated using hand lay up process at ± 45° orientation with 10 layers of plies. The laminates were autoclave cured at 140 ° C. The laminates composite were trimmed and cut to size to Tensile Test as per ASTM 03039- 76 and Impact Test as per ASTM 06110 for mechanical testing and surface analysis via Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). Five samples of200mm x 15 mm x 3.5 mm were tested under tensile load at 2 mm I min. Five specimens were cut to dimension of 50 mm x 10 mm x 10 mm at angle+ 120 ° were tested under Impact Test. Surface analyses via SEM were made for specimens before and after mechanical testing. It was found that the average tensile stress at maximum load is 175.86 ± 4.49 MPa via UTM Instron. From Impact Test, the average energy absorbed is 27.5 J. SEM analysis of specimens after Impact Test showed that delaminataion, matrix cracking and fibre pull-out occur in the laminate composite systems. After tensile test, it was observed that brittle fracture occurs for the laminate composites with some fibre pull-out from composite system.
