Abstract

This study shows how the effect of implementation of the Design for Assembly (DFA) in product development process. Wheelchair was selected as a product in this study. Wheelchair is a helper product for users who are needed for satisfaction and pleasure to live. The study is focusing on optimization of wheelchair design by using in Design of Assembly (DFA) and improved. The scope of study is redesigning a wheelchair with Boothroyd and Dewhurst method by minimizing the component of product. The design data are analyze and modeled to see the influence of Design of Assembly (DFA) in optimization the product development. The Boothroyd and Dewhurst method are used in this study. The results of this study show that new design of wheelchair is 60.36% improvement from original design and the cost of the new design is 43.04% lower than the original design.
