Abstract

The aim for this research is to design and analysis of the temper mill anti crimping roll in order to minimize the coil break defect. In this research, the position of anti crimping rolls and the wrapping angle between rolls and coil are investigated. Coil break is an unwanted horizontal line across coil width which strip had been stressed over yield point. Normally the thick gauge is more likely occured compare to thin gauge. The coil breaks was easily happen at strip head and strip tail and normally cause by low speed of mill due to the quality checking is in progress. Scrap lost contributed by coil breaks defect are high, coil breaks caused from temper mill anti crimping rolls section is a major reason. Temper mill study relationship of different diameter and strip thickness for standardized the operational anti crimping rolls position. Thus for this research the main focus is to analyze the suitable position of rolls for skin pass process whether it can improve several design in steel industry. For this purpose, the level setting of 100mm, 75mm and 35mm are been tested. To analyze the selection part, the AutoCAD software is used to determine the wrapping angle for use to calculate the total yield stress of produced. The results are obtained that variable position of rolls gives the influence of coil breaks defect. The best parameter for the roll is 35mm level setting. Continuous improvement will carry on for this direction to reduce the coil breaks defect.
