Abstract

This project study about material selection based on Design for Sustainability (DfS) approach and technique applied to product design. The main objective of project to redesign the material of bumper fascia of Perodua Myvi with the existing material is replaced and compared which one better in terms of Design for Sustainability aspect. Therefore, DfS is subset of Design for Environment (DfE). So overall this project covers two majors approach DfE and DfS. Literature reviews focus on these two approaches and bumper fascia in Europe and Malaysia. Because of Europe car manufacturer has established long time ago in car industry compare to Malaysia, so mostly literature review more explained about Europe car of bumper fascia. In addition, there are also described about car market of Malaysia to show the current best sales of car. Analysis of bumper fascia starts with done solid modeling of Perodua Myvi bumper fascia. At same time, the information about material and process related are collected at factory and other sources such as journals, books, internet and so on. Besides that, CES EduPack software is used to collect certain data related to DfS approach as impact properties, density and other else. This data also used to compare which one material are reliable to select as new proposed material for Perodua Myvi bumper fascia. All characteristics related are compared manually using Microsoft Excel. Then all necessary data associated with Solidwork Sustainability Express to analyze the product in DfS approach. Two analyses have been covered in this project which analysis of existing material and new proposed material of bumper fascia. The comparison of new material and existing material also had done using Solidwork Sustainability Express. Lastly results are discussed and evaluated whether resonable or not.
