Abstract

Research had been made to see data exchange and development of RP model. Three software were used which are CATIA V5R16, SolidWorks 2009 and UG NX5. The data transfer had been made between CAD-STL and IGES-CAD-STL. The RP models were produced by using FDM Prodigy Plus and FDM Fortus 400mc machines. The FDM models were measured by using CMM and Vernier Caliper to get the difference between the dimensions from original drawing with RP models dimensions that has been made. After the analysis, the dimensions for all RP models shows only small differences which is less than 1 mm. the observation toward surface integrity shows that the all FDM Prodigy Plus models that were produce by this machine have the same surfaces. The outcomes from FDM Fortus 400mc machine is better, time saving and smoother compare to FDM Prodigy Plus machine. The use of third party software such as CADDoctor is extremely important for IGES data exchange into other CAD. Meanwhile, the use of MAGICS is less important for direct data transfer of CAD-STL. This result and analysis is very important because the related parties can predict what will happen if the data transfer occur and while making the prototype. This research is important for academician, designer and industrial.
