Abstract
Today most engineered products from small part such as pen to big part such as car’s engines are assembled part units. During product design and development, designers and engineers traditionally consider not only functionality but also ease of assemble and manufacture of individual components and parts. However, little attention is given to those aspects of design that will facilitate assembly of parts. This report examines the current approach to ease assembly and manufacturing technology methods. It presents an alternative approach in which the focus is shifted process from assembly part by part to assembly and manufacture design. Many methods, such as DFA, DFM, LUCAS, AEM, and Boothroyd are used in industrial field. This report focuses new method Effort Flow Analysis (EFA) on how this method can challenge other method in term of part count reduction to be a compliant part. EFA methods principles based on type of N-link, R-link, C-link, and I-link for the potential of part combination. This report include step of design for assembly, re-design and generate a conceptual design and detail design using CAD software and fabricate a mock-up for the new compliant design using rapid prototyping technology.
