Abstract
Owing of the increased deforestation in worldwide, the usage of synthetic composite material in producing hardboard application is anticipated being a potential replacement for woods. Therefore, this research means to substitute the current hardboard application to the synthetic hybrid composite and also improve the properties of current hardboard product. In this research, the hybrid composite is composed of E-fiberglass and wire mesh as the reinforcement material and unsaturated polyester as the matrix material which are then fabricated into hardboard by Vacuum Infusion Process. In addition, this research is intended to investigate the effects of layer arrangement, layer orientation and thickness of laminate in attaining the optimum formulation for the hybrid composite. Due to the interlaminated structure of the composite, drawback and advantageous effects of hybrid composite will be identified by undergo various mechanical testing like impact testing, durometer hardness test, tensile test and flexural test. Besides, the evaluation of physical testing on the hybrid composite will include water absorption test to examine percentage of water will absorb by the composite. After all testing, the results of this hybrid composite are expected to be greater compared to the actual product which is used as the reference. The ASTM standard is used as the benchmark of all procedures involving standard tools, techniques and testing.
