Abstract

Construction to design a vehicle frame needs several considerations such as type of chassis and its cross beams material. This is important because the right decision will increase the torsional stiffness of the vehicle. So, a research needs to develop to make sure that the structure was follows the standard due to safety precaution. In this research, the example of the frame construction is refer to the Formula SAE rules and this will helps to guide for the Formula Student racing car. This project more focus on the medication of frame and its effect for cross member on torsional stiffness over mass ratio. The finite element analysis needs to be done by using Patran Nastran software. The overcome results are covered on the level of movement distance from its initial condition. The high value of torsional stiffness gives advantage to the driver in handling the vehicle especially on cornering.
