Abstract
The main goal of this project is to analyze the effect of the feed rates on surfaces roughness in turning process. Generally there are three parameters that will affect the surfaces roughness; there is rotation, depth of cut and feed rate. Roughness is a measure of the texture of a surface. It is quantified by the vertical deviations of a real surface from its ideal form . If these deviations are large, the surface is rough and if they are small the surface is smooth. There are parameters such feed rate, spindle speed and depth of cut that are known to have a large impact on the surface roughness. For this research, four different type of material with six samples for each material were used that is mild steel, medium carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminum. For the parameter, feed rate value are set to O.OSmmlrev, 0.1 mmlrev, 0.2 mmlrev, 0.3 mm/rev, 0.4 mmlrev and 0.5 mmlrev while for spindle speed is 1150 rpm and depth of cut is 0.2 mm. Spindle speed and depth of cut are set to fix value because this experiment is to analysed the effect of feed rate. Surface roughness values are measured by using surface roughness tester and surface texture observation is done by using metallurgy microscope (Axioscope 2 MAT).
