Abstract

The project deals with the nonlinear system of Bus Suspension system. The state-feedback controller and lead/lag controller will be designed in order to control the system. Control theory of determining the stability will be used as to design an extremely good controller. State-space theory will be used in order to create the mathematical modeling of the system and also to design the SFC. The simulation is using the Matlab-Simulink: software. \Vhen the suspension system is designed, a 1/4 bus model (one of the four wheels) is used to simplify the problem to a one dimensional spring-damper system. When the bus is experiencing any road disturbance (i.e. pot holes, cracks, and uneven pavement), the bus body should not have large oscillations, and the oscillations should dissipate quickly. The problem is how long the system will dissipate the vibration. The system that we have to built should be having the shortest time and also have the ability to absorb all the bumping. The system which has the best dissipated time will give the best suspension to make sure the bus stable. There are four main objectives in this project which are to determine the transfer function in s domain and state-space representation of the bus suspension system with the disturbance, to design the Lead/Lag controller and State Feedback Controller to give the smoothest handling for the bus suspension system and lastly is to carry-out the simulation works of both controllers when applied to the system using graph and animation for comparison purpose. In designing process, firstly the mathematical model will be determined and the mathematical model will be linearise to design the controller. After linearise process, these two controller mentioned above will be designed and in the end of the semester, the comparisons of these controllers was performed when applied to bus suspension system under matlab-simulink platform with graph and animation using matlab-simulink.
