Abstract
This study evaluates Aloe Vera extract as an eco-friendly corrosion inhibitor for carbon steel in river water, 3.5wt.% NaCl, and 5M HCl mediums. Aiming to provide a green solution to metal degradation, it compares the effectiveness of Aloe Vera in different environments and immersion periods. The research involves mechanical tests to analyze hardness and microstructure changes. Low carbon steel specimens, with and without Aloe Vera extract, were observed over 35 days. Corrosion rates and inhibitor efficiency were assessed through weight loss measurements, while SEM and EDX analyses confirmed the formation of a protective film on the steel. Preliminary results show that Aloe Vera extract effectively inhibits corrosion in all media, with performance improving at higher concentrations. These findings suggest that Aloe Vera could replace traditional inhibitors, offering a sustainable method for protecting carbon steel against corrosion.
