Abstract
Plants play an important role in our daily life and environment. Each leaf carries significant information that can help people to recognise and classify the plant by looking it. However, its hard to recognise plant species. The pattern of the vein on the leaf can be used to differentiate tropical forest tree species. This research will have focused on the pattern of the vein on the leaf as different tropical forest tree have different veins pattern on them. The significant contribution is to know the species of tree especially in tropical tree species based on leaf vein. Step of methodology consists of input image, pre-processing, extract features, pattern recognition, classify, leaf features database and validation result. Plants recognition required the accuracy of identification that can be clouded by human subjectivity. The naked eyes capability is very limited and it can easily miss certain details that are necessary for a precise identification. Besides, the number of expert in this field is very low as not many people is interested in continuing their studies in this field. The botanist may be the one who expert about type of the trees, however, people out there also need to know the type of the trees. The objective of this project are to analyse technique use for tropical forest tree species based on leaf vein extraction, to enhance existing technique based on leaf vein extraction and to evaluate the best technique used to recognize tropical forest tree species. The expected outcome must have achieved the goals of this project.
