Abstract

Automobile Industry in Malaysia plays a vital role in the development and also contributed much towards the economy and growth of the country. The most important aspect when designing a car is to ensure that it is ergonomics, safe and suitable for the use of mass population. The aim of this study is to develop an ergonomics standard extension angle for driver comfort in Malaysia National Car. The car used in this study is PROTON‟s latest car model which is Proton Saga Premium AT. To analyze the standard extension angle for Malaysia Population, a Malaysia Manikin will created by using mismatch between one standard manikin data and 1000 Malaysia Anthropometry database. Meanwhile, to analyze the comfortable angle at steering, pedals and gear shift knob, RULA analysis in CATIA V5 software will be conducted. Next, the standard extension angle will be develop in a table. Based on the result, the Malaysia Manikin created looks a bit larger compare to other existing manikin like Japanese and French. RULA analysis was conducted on all 3 percentile which includes 5th percentile, 50th percentile and 95th percentile for male and female manikin on 3 different horizontal seat distance and it was found out that almost all percentile able to get good RULA score for minimum, median and maximum seat horizontal distance respectively. The current design of Proton Saga Premium AT generally able to provide comfort.
