Abstract

In recent years, Lean Manufacturing concept has become a popular approach as it is not only applicable in manufacturing industry but also in other sectors. The introduction of chain retailers and online groceries store in the retail market has affected significantly on the small groceries shop. Hence, the owner of the small groceries shop must strengthen the shop's competitive capabilities in order to stand firm in this competitive market. However, the hidden loss cost in the small groceries shop may reduce the profit margin and consequently affect the efficiency of the small groceries shop. Thus, this project intends to improve the efficiency of the small groceries shop. The objectives ofthis project are to identify the common problem that affect the efficiency of the small groceries shop through observation and questionnaires. Then, Ishikawa diagram and . Pareto analysis are used to identify and analyse the root causes that caused the common problem. After analysing and knowing the exact root causes that caused the common problem, a solution related to Lean manufacturing concept is proposed to the small groceries shop to overcome the common problem faced. 5S is proposed as the solution to solve the common problems that lead to the inefficiency in the small groceries shop
