Abstract

Biodiesel is one of the most important alternative source for fossil fuel that has several distinctive advantageous.However,biodiesel has high level of acidity and water content that the practical application of biodiesel needed to be blended with fossil fuel.This project aims to study the effect of storage at variant temperature,to investigate an effect of degradation of biodiesel within storage time and to investigate the potential effect of running HBR biodiesel to the engine performance.The samples used are standard diesel (STD), B70, B80 and B90.The properties of biodiesel which are acid value,flash point,viscosity,density and water content were measured according to ASTM D6751 biodiesel fuel standard.The storage time further increase the acidic content of biodiesel especially at high temperature storage.The water content in HBR biodiesel was also found increases with increases of storage time and rate of water content was more aggressive at high temperature storage time.Engine performance testing by using biodiesel B70 results shows there are slightly decreasing about 2-8% less of engine horse power and 4-10% less in torque.Biodiesel B70 can perform satisfactorily during diesel engine.
