Abstract
Optimization of effective and efficient material handling system has attracted interest of many researchers lately and demand of high technology has been increased in order to have an increase production profit in manufacturing industry. Current issues have been introduced by many researchers. But, still there’s lack in identifying the cause of actual problem. This research work is trying to study one of the actual problems by reviewing the fundamental issue regarding the system integration between material supply system in production line and inventory system in warehouse. An example of an assembly process in automotive factory is selected as a method to collect data in actual industry situation. The study aims to assess the influences of automated material handling system in assembly process by configuring a new design of integration system through simulation and analyze the significant effects and influences of the system. The method approach tool will be using CAD Software (Delmia & Quest). 5 phases are planned to be done in order to achieve the objectives. Preliminary data gathering in phase 1 will collect all data related from actual industry situation. It’s expected to give a guideline and limitation in designing a new integration system later. In phase 2, an idea or concept of design will be done by using standard principle of design consideration for manufacturing. A full factorial design with 3 levels of 3 factors will be used as design of experiment and an ANOVA analysis can be done to study the average cycle time, average Work in Process and percentage of time recorded. Thus it is expected, a recommendation can be made to introduce a new automated material handling system which able to improve efficiency and cost of production in assembly process of competitive manufacturing.
