Abstract

In the Lean manufacturing, waste of waiting is specifically significant to stream and it is probably the second most critical waste among all the seven waste. The line balancing is a technique that implements in the industry to eliminate the waste of waiting. Once the bottleneck in the system is identified and resolved, the productivity can be improved significantly as the idle time of production is minimized. Currently, the case company discovered that they are lack of attention to the accuracy of cycle time and have unequal workload among the operator. Therefore, the aim of this study is to conduct a line balancing study by using Arena simulation software as to improve the smoothness of production line thereby improve productivity. The real-time data will be collected in the case company and demonstrates in the histogram. Precedence diagram is used to present the new sequence of workstation arrangement after reduce the number of workstation. In order to move toward IR4.0, the Arena simulation software is used to validate the productivity of new workstation design. At the end of this study, comparison on the result of existing production line system and new production line in simulation model after implementation of corrective action show that the labour productivity has increased by 172.31% if employ only one operator instead of three operator for inspection process.
