Abstract
Cleaner Production is the one of important tools or as an alternative of investigating the operation process that lead to a high consumption of energy and water or efficiency reduction of machine used. It focuses on the manufacturing process and continuously looks for opportunities to improve particularly aiming to reduce the costs, energy and water. It is important that Cleaner production process take in place and consider the legal, social and environmental aspects of the production process. This research aims to investigate the current practice in chicken slaughtering industry and assess the opportunities for cleaner production by using heat and water pinch analysis. In the current practices, chicken slaughtering industry consume enormous amount of heat and water. Therefore, cleaner production approach will be used as fundamental approach to assess and investigate the problems and hence providing options for improvement. There are 3 important phases in this research. The first phase involved investigation of minimum freshwater requirement and waste water generation. During this phase, detail assessment will be conducted for the manufacturing process. Next, the second phase focus on investigation of energy consumption in the production process. Finally, a feasible design for energy and water network will be proposed in order to meet the minimum water and energy consumption. It is expected that from the new design of water and energy network it will reduce the energy and water consumption thus reducing the cost for production process.
