Abstract

This project presents a study on the conceptual design of rubbish collector boat for the Sungai Melaka. The new design concept is based on requirement from Perbadanan Pembangunan Sungai dan Pantai Melaka (PPSPM) where Sungai Melaka had been polluted by many types of contaminants such as wastewater from shop or house, oil, and also from the tree where the leaf and branches fall into the river and the existing rubbish collector boat at Sungai Melaka have a limitation where it have a problem regarding its stability, resistance and hydrostatic. The objective of this project is to study the relationship between hydrostatic and initial stability of the boat and analyse the resistance and rubbish hence improve the design of existing rubbish collector boat and resolve some of the problems encountered during the process of collecting waste. This project begins with the process of collecting data by interviewing the PPSPM. Several methods are used to identify the best designs concept and also suitable for use at the Melaka River. The drawing and analysis software involve is SolidWorks 2016 and DELFTship software to study the appropriate design concepts where some of the features of the boat are studied such as stability, hydrostatic and resistance. After finished the analysis, the results of the analysis were determined the best and suitable concept for rubbish collector boat in the Melaka River. There are three concept developed as a new design and all of them were analyse by using DELFTship software to see its hydrostatic, resistance and initial stability result. From the result, the final concept were choose as the most suitable rubbish collector boat, thus concept 1 were choose as a suitable design for rubbish collector boat for Sungai Melaka with the most of the requirement by PPSPM had been achieved. As conclusion, a study on conceptual design is important to identify the suitable design of the boat for Sungai Melaka and concept 1 is the most suitable for preliminary design of rubbish collector boat for Sungai Melaka.
