Abstract

Nonlinear vibro-acoustic is a highly reliable and sensitive method for damage detection. It is a method based on propagation of high frequency acoustic waves in solid structures with low-frequency excitation. Interaction of the acoustic wave with material or geometry properties changes caused wave distortion effects. The causes called nonlinear acoustic effects are amplified with the low frequency excitation. In this study, this experiment to study the effects of vibration mode at low frequency excitation node locations to detect fatigue cracks in the aluminum plate by using nonlinear vibro-acoustic. In addition, to determine the relationship between cracking material with the value of index, also known as the R value. The aluminum plate subjected to low frequency vibration of nine locations using shakers which is generated by frequency generator and amplifier control functions. Cracks were measured using modulation wave intensity called as R value index. Three modes of vibration obtained from tests using an oscilloscope and a computer with a software program (LabVIEW). The plate was excited as nine different locations of low frequency excitation. Therefore, the most effective location to detect the fatigue crack is node number 6 in the plate due to high R value according to the earliest form of three modes.
