Abstract

In manufacturing industry, inventory management has become an important activity which must be well-managed for a better productivity and good customer service. The ERP system is relatively costly to be implemented by the SMEs. Thus, this research is mainly on implementing the suitable plan for the inventory management in the SMEs to increase the operation performance. A suitable software which is an open source Enterprise Resource Planning (OSS/ERP) is selected to be implemented in the SMEs as the characteristic of the OSS/ERP which are free and easily excess is suitable for the condition of financial and human resource in SMEs. This software allows the management team to manage inventory systematically and consistently. Therefore, a test run will be done in a selected SMEs by collecting the bill of materials (BOM) for all the products in the industry. The result simulated is then compared with the old recorded data to observe on the change in the operation performance. The expected result from this project is to study the current procedure and implement the OSS ERP for improving the inventory management.
