Abstract

Internet Protocol (IP) is the Internet addressing protocol that allows devices to connect to each other. Now,the existing IPv4 protocol gradually been replaced by a new version of the protocol which is IPv6 to overcome the limitation of IPv4 and to provide a larger scale of addresses that facilitate various improvements of the protocol. Most countries in the world are in the midst of this migration.Based on previous research however, there are still a number of organizations that have not prepared for IPv6 migration even though they are aware of the urgent need to apply IPv6 in their network. Understanding the factors that influence the readiness of an organization towards IPv6 is important so that it can help to facilitate the migration process. Therefore, the objectives of this study are to explore the factors that can define the readiness of an organization to migrate to the IPv6 and to explore the elements that can clarify all the factors which have been identified. The study involves qualitative approach (document analysis and structured interviews) and quantitative approach (5-point Likert Scale questionnaire, statistical analysis). The findings show that IPv6 deployment (planning, equipment, cost, knowledge and motivation are the factors required for measuring the readiness of an organization for IPv6 migration.
