Abstract

Nowadays, the manufacturing industry is growing complex and faster. The production planning becomes an important role to manage the production activities. Material usage is the major key for the production. Thus, the effective production planning is responsible for providing more accurate and actionable information during material planning, controlling and scheduling. In this project, the first step is study the current status of production planning in the SMEs (small medium enterprises) industry. One of the planning tool called MRP (material requirements planning) tool in open source ERP (enterprise resource planning) software is suggested to improve the planning system. The integrity of MRP in open source ERP system included BOM (bill of material), MPS (master production schedule) and inventory record as the primary input system. The selection of the MRP system in open source ERP software is more affordable and user-friendly for the SMEs industry. The OSS/MRP system for analysis, development and testing are aimed to achieve all the objectives in this project. In conclusion, the process logic of current and new production planning is done. The opportunity of the MRP process is ready by comparing the execute time of plan between planning and the satisfactory level of the user. The improvement of production planning by using OSS/MRP system is proved after the planned manufacturing order is able to fulfill the demand of customer.
