Abstract
Generally in power system, changes in the load will affect the frequency and bus voltages and frequency fluctuation may occur and affect the system performances. Hence, the frequency of the whole system must be controlled in order to ensure that the frequency return back to its nominal value and hence, minimize unscheduled tie-line power flows between neighbouring control areas. The load frequency control (LFC) is applied to control the frequency deviation when there are load changes. The aims of this project is to model two area power system that consists of turbine speed governing system, turbine model with reheat unit and generator with load. Two-term control namely Proportional-Integral (PI) controller and Fuzzy Logic (FL) controller are applied to the system. Hence, the closed loop system performances in term of transient and steady states are analysed and both of PI controller and FL controller performances were compared. The performance of the proposed technique is observed by injecting multifarious load perturbation. The results are obtained via the simulation works using MATLAB with SIMULINK® toolbox.
