Abstract

People of neurological diseases with hemiparesis condition in PERKESO Rehabilitation Centre (PRC) have problem lifting their arms against gravity because of degeneration of their muscles.Most of them require an assistive device such as counter balance arm sling that supports the weight of their arm,as well enabling them to promote independency.Reported that this counter balance has not been provided by the PRC.Moreover,the existing device in the current market are not affordable and difficult to be own due to the high cost to manufacture the product and currently only available in the foreign market.Apart from that,most of the existing design are not mobile and detachable.This project focussed to develop assistive aids that support upper limb of the neurological patient with hemiparesis people.This project successfully developed a new design of Counter Balance Arm Sling (CBAS) that is mobile and detachable.Besides mobile and detachable,the design is economical and ergonomic which fulfil the user’s requirement.The product tested and validated by the therapist and the patients in PRC.Results shown the product accomplished the purpose of this CBAS equipment for the patient as an assistive device in order to help the neurological patient with hemiparesis to support their arms for individuals with weakness of one side of the body for their everyday living,which includes therapy exercise and daily activities.Even more,this product has an important role that the design could help the patient as an exercise aids whereby this is an extra features to help the user for their upper limb strengthening.
