Abstract

The title of this project is ‘Parametric Design and Analysis of Automotive Suspension Coil Spring’. There are various approach used by the design engineer in creating a coil spring. However, today rapid developing technology has lead many design engineer to move to a better approach in creating geometry. This project proposes some of the method to design coil spring by using parametric modelling. CATIA V5R21 was used as a platform to design a complete coil spring and integrate the coil spring design with table designed by using Microsoft Excel. Four method of designing coil spring geometry by using parametric modelling has been proposed through this research. Best method of designing a coil spring has been chosen among the proposed methods. Comparisons were done between all methods in order to determine the most suitable method which can help to reduce time consumption and worker’s work load. Subsequently, it can also boost up the production rate. Besides, coil spring geometry was meshed using Hyper Mesh and exported to Hyper Crash. A linear static analysis is done to extract the coil spring stiffness and maximum stress generated on a point along the spring geometry by using RADIOSS. Comparison between coil spring stiffness obtains by theoretical calculation with coil spring stiffness obtains from analysis is done to prove the process of designing a coil spring. As a result of this method implementation, time consumption and workers work load can be reduced.
