Abstract

Good quality of product is important to satisfy and meet customer expectation. When a product cannot meet the specifications set, one of the main reasons is due to its production process. This project is aimed to analyze and determine the root cause of quality problem faced by a rubber gloves manufacturing company in Melaka which experienced high number of defects in their production process and to recommend a solution to reduce the defects. Thus, to improve the defects problem, the process must be improved. To improve the production process, Six Sigma DMAIC methodology has been implemented. DMAIC is referring to Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control is a powerful method which combines several tools and techniques through step-by-step approach. Several tools and techniques was used in this project implementation such as project charter, flow charts, data collection plan, cause and effect diagram and correlation analysis. The analysis from employing Six Sigma tools found that temperature affects the surface tension of a chemical substance known as Dope C. The Dope C surface tension has tendency to turn into high in low temperature which believed was contribute to high defective rate. The countermeasure and control plan is suggested to improve the performance of the process and to maintain the improvement.
