Abstract

This project discussed about the characteristics of product design based on customer emotions using the 'Kansei engineering', 'Kansei Words', 'Image Processing' and 'Mathematical Approach'. The focus of this project is to identify and analyze the emotional product based on customer preferences compared to image product. This project is specially to develop new profile design based on aesthetic design against customer emotional through the main survey distributed to 511 car users in UTeM and Melaka Central as the respondents. The three types of cars design which are used in the questionnaire to investigate the car design or shape of the car. 5 Kansei Words showed the semantic articulated that represent the customer emotional design towards cars are ‘Simple’, ‘Sporty’, ‘Modern’, ‘Exclusive’ and ‘Smart’. Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) is used to analyse the respondent’s answers for statistical data based on what customers needs when they purchase a product and also what the particular related attributes to their preferences. On this project, six cars were selected from each type using Bézier curves (Geogebra), includes the segmentation of the design profile. Toyota Aygo (2A) was the best design for compact/city car, while for sedan car is BMW F80 M3 (3E) and for MPV is Toyota Alphard Vellfire is the best design. The ‘Modern’ is highest average value among others in term of Kansei Words during main survey, while Toyota Alphard Vellfire is most chosen among 511 respondents. The new design cars were developed using Kansei Engineering though the integration of Image Processing is based on Mathematical Approach. The results were followed by post test in order to determine the accuracy that related with the results obtained. A total of 35 respondents used to answer the post test. The ‘Simple’ and ‘Sporty’ were highest average value and Toyota Alphard Vellfire is most selected car by respondents.
