Abstract

This research presents a review of the application on variable speed capacity control in a compact hydraulic power unit. The aim is to put together diversified information and to appraise recent advances in promoting energy efficiency in fluid power application. The review reveals that through the use of variable-speed drives based on inverters, a solution for reducing energy loss is expected. The ability to control the capacity of rotor dynamic machines, such as pumps and fans, and their application to fluid power machines, such as compact hydraulic power unit, has a promising prospect of increasing efficiency.Although some technology has suggests the use of variable speed control in feasible applications, it also promotes variety of challenges, due to a number of problems, such as insufficient development and integration of components, poor reliability, high capital cost and the failure of demonstration installations to produce the expected energy savings.Since the inverter-based variable-speed drive technology offers the potential for energy savings, considerable research work is still required for the development of optimized and cost -effective systems.
