Abstract

The use of fossil fuels is increasing in transportation and industrial sectors. This leads to the problem of supply and environmental pollution due to emissions from the engine. Vegetable oil with diesel blend for diesel engine reduces harmful exhaust emissions. Research on the physical properties of the fuel blend are determined. Four vegetable oils that tested are olive oil, sunflower oil, palm oil and coconut oil. Using four-stroke single cylinder to test engine performance and emission of mixture containing 5% vegetable oil and 95% diesel. Viscosity, calorific value and density of the fuel blend will be determined using a viscometer, hydrometer and a bomb calorimeter. Engine emissions are tested using an automobile gas analyzer. Design of experiment of Taguchi method is used to obtain blend of vegetable oils that give an optimum performance and emission. The study found that a palm oil with diesel blend give the most optimum value in terms of engine performance and emissions.
