Abstract

Nonlinear acoustic is a method that can be used to detect or analyze defect from micro levels. This method is reliable and sensitive for damage detection. The main objective for this work is to make an analysis by using nonlinear acoustic to analyze the modulation of intensity for crack detection and the effect of the crack to the wave modulation. However the main problem statement for this report is the mechanism of nonlinear acoustic effect is not quite established. Finite Element Modeling Method (FEM) will be used to determine natural frequency and mode shape for an aluminum plate. Then the result will be focused to determine the intensity of wave modulation. The models are uncracked plat and cracked plate with various crack length. For determining the intensity of wave modulation, the transfer function that response wave propagation into uncracked and cracked will be used. The result shows that the wave modulation is significantly related with the length of crack. It shows that when the crack length increased, the modulation intensity also will be increased.
