Abstract

The excessive use of energy in residential, commercial and industrial buildings and equipment used necessitate the decision maker to always question on how the energy used is being efficient. More emphasize will be put into industrial sectors due to the competitive of producing better products with lesser cost. The small percentage of energy use reduction relates to the product cost and profit margins. Therefore, it is important to the Energy manger/ Production manager of an industry to have a systematic method to audit the plant and energy used by the equipment to produce the practical actions needed in reducing the energy usage and improve the comfort and product quality. This project is designed to produce a practical methodology that combines a set of rules and principles in auditing the energy use for manufacturing industry building and equipment.Knowing in an accurate way where the energy is being used in buildings and equipment will help a decision maker to optimize the operating efficiency of the plant. It is important for a decision maker to have a complete set of information and actions needed for his plant's energy audit under a set of database collection and driven by a user friendly tool, which currently not available. Therefore this research will be the first step to design a tool as an improved model of energy audit application with a systematic approach introduced.Energy audit is one of the processes to know and the energy consumption in a building or equipment and this methodology gives alternative ways to reduce the energy usage and improving comfort and quality of products. The methodology of energy audit can be used as a tool in energy conservation program within an industry. The end product of this research is a complete framework and a user-friendly software tool complete with building and equipment parameters and standard database. This project is a framework and software development based. The main steps/ tasks of the work are to document all steps and data needed to start the energy audit, including all the standards available; to survey the equipment parameters and building parameters; to list and document all the rule of thumb for each category of audit for problem solving options; to develop a complete methodology of building and equipment energy audit and databases; and to develop a software tool.
